Wow, what an honour to travel to Bordeaux, France to photograph this Chateau Rigaud wedding for Sarah and Ciaran.

After a long lockdown due to COVID, it was so refreshing to travel abroad and capture a destination wedding. This celebration was years in the making. After various rearrangements, the date was confirmed to the relief of the bride and groom, who were travelling from Ireland to tie the knot, and finally party with their friends and family.

I travelled with a good friend and videographer, Chris. We were both tasked with the responsibility of producing an unposed, natural documentary of Sarah and Ciaran’s special day. Something we were confident of being able to achieve. The plan was for a super relaxed wedding with a small group of people, all to take place in the intimate grounds of Chateau Rigaud. A stunning building situated amid the famous Bordeaux vines.

The wedding ceremony was carried out by a friend, and took place under a huge oak tree on the front lawn of the venue. An idyllic location, and one that wouldn’t look out of place on a movie screen.

We decided to take the newly-weds for a walk to a nearby vineyard, to capture some really unique portraits in and amongst the grapes. The clouds above were heavy, and the risk of rain was real. We ran back inside just as the heavens opened. It would seem as though we had brought the British weather over to France with us.

Throughout the day, incredible regional food and drink was served. Duck, oysters, champagne and world famous red wines, just to name a few.

The wedding breakfast was served under candle light in the on site barn, with its bare walls and hard floor, but more romantic and French than you could ever imagine.

A party followed the food, and guests were entertained by a local french band. How awesome it would’ve been to hang around to dance and be merry with the married couple and their friends, but an early flight the next day would cut our day short.

It is always humbling when you’re asked to photograph a destination wedding. It speaks volumes for the work for a couple to fly you to a foreign country to be their photographer. I can now add France to my growing list of locations, which also include Bali, Goa, Italy, Malta and Cyprus. The opportunity to shoot another Chateau Rigaud Wedding would be too good to refuse. Please get in touch if you would like me to photograph your abroad wedding in my relaxed, story telling style.
